Whew, this has been a CRAZY time for us. We have a lot going on right now so this April entry is very late. We have some exciting things coming up that I will hopefully be able to share in our next post.
The first week of April was Spring Break so we headed up to Anacortes to spend time with the cousins while they were all out of school.
Our first activity was a trip to Padilla Bay and Aquarium.
After the aquarium we hiked up the trail and then headed down to the beach.
This was a tree with a nest of honey bees. I have never actually seen a honey bee tree. I have only seen the little hives people put out in their fields. Pretty cool!
It was a cold day but the kids had to get wet and muddy anyway!
I planned some activities for them on our outing.
Em sketching something from nature.
Wildlife bingo!
Eris Sketching.
Boys getting muddy =)
All in all a fun day exploring the beautiful Bay!
While we were up there the annual Tulip festival was going, so we spent a day walking the acres of stunning colors!
Rainbows of colors as far as the eye can see it was amazing.
I take my job of keeping the kids busy very seriously. One day we spent the afternoon working on games that build trust!
The blindfolded had to trust their partner to stir them right.
Then we did some co-operative games where you had to work as a team to accomplish a task.
There was a lot of laughing going on that afternoon!!
On our rainy day we headed to the local library to enjoy some quiet time reading.
One of our last activities was collage making.
We did color collage, where you had to pick one color to collage with.
We also did personality collages, to express your self.
Before we packed up to head home we received some wonderful news. My niece Julia was born. She was almost 8 weeks early so it was kind of scary. But she is one strong little girl and is home now doing Great. We were able to stop and see her at the NICU on our way home.
Eris was able to go in and hold her hand. It was so special to see her. I am so happy for my brother and sister-in-law, they are going to be amazing parents.
Once home it was back to work as usual, which means school work. We had some very fun science projects to work on.
Beren dissected an Owl pellet.
He found a perfectly intact skull.
Once he had found and sorted all the bones he assembled a full skeleton to see what the Owl had eaten.
Turns out it was a rodent, probably a mouse.
Eris also did some dissecting. Much to her delight on a little less grosser scale!
She dissected flowers.
We love our science projects.
Also, getting back into our routine means Cub Scouts. This month the boys went to an industrial sign company.
They tried on the crane operator's gear.
Saw some electricity arcs.
Then got to make their own Sign to take home.
It was a great trip.
Then the Cub Scouts organized their annual community service project.
This year was park clean up.
The boys worked hard and did a great job. The parks looked beautiful.
To finish off our month we celebrated Easter. It was pretty low key for us this year.
The highlight for the kids was adding Peeps to their Easter Breakfast Cocoa!
I have so much more to share in the next few months. Hope you all are having a wonderful spring!
