January Slow Down

January is always a time for us to sort of get back into our routine and settle a bit.  Not to say that it is boring in anyway. On the contrary some pretty exciting things happen in January!!

The first excitement is Pine Wood Derby.  I don't know if you all remember my post last year regarding Pine Wood Derby.  Beren dropped his car during photos and it broke so badly that it was barley able to run.  He was pretty devastated after all that hard work but it was a great learning experience for him none the less.

This year he and his dad worked twice as hard on design and execution.  I helped a little at weigh in, adjusting the weight 3 times until it was spot on.  Beren opted not to do photos this year before the race.

Not only did his car run well this year, he came in First place for his Rank (Webelos 1) and is going to the district race this Spring!!

It was so exciting!  I had a hard time not bringing the roof down.  I am so happy for him!

This month also brought the end of Eris's Film Making Class.  Which was bitter sweet for her, she loved the class but is so excited to share her movie:

Mr. Stick!

(the video is posted as a separate blog entry to the right, just click on Mr. Stick at the right and you will be able to watch her movie)

Good Job Eris, I especially love the musical score!

More excitement came with Beren's 10th Birthday!  That's right my youngest is now in the double digits people.

Think he knows what it is?

He totally knew what it was!

Malfoy's walking stick from the Harry Potter Movies.

And Voldemort's wand.

Hmmm, those are both bad guys.

This year for his cake he wanted a Transformer Scraplet.

I got pretty close, He was definitely happy which is all that matters.

Scraplets are bad guys too!  I am beginning to see a trend here......hmmm, should I be worried?

At the end of January came more excitement with my Niece's birthday!

She loves strawberries and this summer she and invented a strawberry cake together, and that is what she wanted for her birthday.  It was a pretty special Auntie moment for me!

I think she had a pretty good day with friends and cousins.

She got to celebrate again with her class, where we served more strawberry cupcakes!

I sure love my Niece.  She really deserved a special day just for her and I am beyond grateful that I was able to be a part of it!

January ended with one last exciting event........SNOW!!!!!!!!

We got dumped on!  We got 6 inches in one day.  We do not get snow like this every year.  The kids were thrilled and couldn't wait to get out in it.  They have played outside everyday since for hours.  Now if I could just figure out to get them to do that when it isn't freezing outside!

What was that I was saying about settling down in January, maybe next year!
