My kids have the baking bug.
This is Beren baking a batch of cookies. I love the little fingers covered in flour.
These are Eris's "Chimmie Cherry Changas"
We made the recipe up based on an episode of Ponies. They were really good!!
My nephew was in the hospital with a very serious staff infection in his heart valve. We spent a lot of January driving up to visit him.
The kids and their cousin with an arsenal of entertainment to keep them busy in the very boring hospital room!!
Beren spent about 3 days working on his Pine Wood Derby car with his dad. We pride ourselves in letting Beren do all the work that he is able to. He worked really hard on his car this year and was very excited!
Before the race they give the boys their car for a photo. Unfortunately Beren dropped his car and a large piece broke off. They still let it race but the wheel wobbled and at one point the car crashed and the wheel came off.
He was devasted to say the least. As any parent I would give anything to never see my children in pain, even emotional heart broken pain. But I was able to see this as teaching moment, a blessing in disguise. We talked about how sometimes you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and carry on. We talked about how life is full of peaks and valleys and that after this valley there is nowhere to go but up. We talked about how his family will be there to support him when he suffers disappointment. I know he will always remember this experience, not in the way he had hoped but in a way that will make him a wonderful man someday. I am so proud to report that he dried his tears long enough to congratulate the two boys from his den with the fastest times and then we promptly went out for Frozen Yogurt.
Needless to say he felt a bit better after that!
Eris spends so much of her time creating and drawing. She has truly found something she loves!
This is a piece from her art class.
She has improved sooooo much, I am so proud of her talent and dedication. There is nothing like watching your children find their passion in life!
Beren turned 9 this month.
I remember that snowy January like it was yesterday. The worst snow I had ever seen in Ketchikan! I remember Eris coming to see her new brother and riding the hospital bed up & down all day. Love you my son!!
The weekend of Beren's birthday we went snow tubing with the Cub Scouts.
The kids had such a blast. We had never been up to Mt. Hood before. It was a great day and we can't wait to go again. The best part was the warm thermos of cocoa waiting for us in the car when we were done!
We found out that Eris has her own action figure!
And what an awesome action figure it is too. We will definitely have to own one!
Like I said a pretty quiet month. The kids both were sick so we had a lot of snuggling at home days.
A sight I will never get tired of. My kid's snuggly toes in my lap!
